2010 Zinfandel, Carreras Ranch, Old Vine, Dry Creek Valley
Classic Dry Creek Zin with bold structure and complex flavors
Planted in 1905, the vineyard has been dry farmed and head trained for 110 years. Truly a heritage vineyard planted with a classic 'Field Blend' of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignane, and Alicante Bouchet vines.
This wine exhibits Cabernet-like structure; big stature, deep color, and deeply concentrated fruit. Aromas of dried black fruits and confectioners sugar with a hint of tobacco, with a long and complex finish.
97 POINTS - MANZANITA CREEK 2010 Zinfandel Carreras Ranch - Dry Creek Valley $44 Aromas of dark raspberry, black cherry, plum, star anise, pepper spice and black fig supported by chocolate, vanilla, smoke and oak. A little sticky at first on the palate, this wine opens-up into a flavorful array of red and black fruit flavors melting into a sea of chocolate and toasted oak.

The composition of these Carreras Ranch Zinfandels [2002 thru 2010] are as follows: 80% Zinfandel,8% Carignan, 8% Petite Sirah, 1 % Alacante Bouchet, 1% Mouvedre.... the rest is anybodies guess–– there are a number of white grapes here and there and I think some Mission Grapes as well. At least to the best of my knowledge.
